What is the SPA Trust? |
The
SPA Trust is basically a philanthropic trust fund that was established by SPA Inc. members in November 2005. It is a prime
example of our commitment to providing real opportunities for our
members to develop philanthropic proficiency.
Technically it is a sub-fund within the Greater Melbourne Foundation (GMF) of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation (LMCF). The LMCF is a charitable fund endorsed by the ATO as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) item 2.

What will the SPA Trust Fund? |
At present we are NOT able to accept unsolicited funding requests.
Although we have developed Principles and Guidelines for the SPA Trust (see below), SPA's funding focus is likely to change over the years as different people take over the reins of the grants sub-committee.
What is certain though is that because the SPA Trust is a subfund of the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation
our grants will always meet the legal requirements of the LMCF Trust
Deed.
That means for example that we are only able to consider funding for organisations that are
endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) item 1 and for Charity Tax Concessions (TCC). And while we cannot fund capital works (i.e. bricks and mortar) we are able to provide funds for ongoing core costs including salaries.

On 29th October 2007 the SPA Grantmaking team met at Rikki's place. We didn't have much to give from a dollar point of view but in terms of SPA's development it was a significant occasion... this was SPA's first grantmaking round.
